Who can do yoga?
Virtually anyone can practice and benefit from yoga, though different kinds of yoga are appropriate for different people. Those who are already fit and energetic will find in yoga a way to develop their physical potential further than ever before, but people of any age can practice yoga and people with even serious adverse physical conditions (such as MS, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and cancer) can benefit from yoga that is appropriately tailored for their needs.
I’m not flexible at all, will I hurt myself if I do yoga?
You do not have to be flexible in order to practice yoga. A responsible yoga teacher will always encourage you to modify the postures to work for your body. Each body has its own strengths and its own challenges; most important is that you stay comfortably within your limits.
Can I come to class if I have health concerns or limitations or injuries?
Yes. Please remember to let the teacher know about your condition or limitation before class. Teachers are trained to modify or eliminate poses and suggest alternate strategies to enable you to practice safely and intelligently.
Are classes suitable for beginners?
Yes. Many of our classes will need to cater to students of varying levels. Instructors will ensure that poses are modified as needed to address the needs of all participants. We also offer classes specifically suited to beginners, intermediate or advanced students.
Is there a minimum class size?
Our classes can be implemented to suit as few as one student (usually called a private session) up to as many students as your space can handle. Our programs, which are a series of classes, usually require participation of minimum number of students.
What size space is needed?
It will depend largely on the size of the class, but a good guideline for a class size of up to 10 people is about 500 Sq. ft (without obstructions i.e. poles, columns, etc.) or a room that would be roughly 25ft by 20ft.
How do we pay for classes?
Credit card is easiest. We accept MasterCard and Visa and ask in most cases that classes be paid for in advance (we can provide invoicing if needed).
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
No. Your instructor will bring all the equipment needed for the class including yoga mats, props, and music. Many students like to use their own mats and they are welcome to bring them. We also provide mats for purchase if a student doesn’t have one but would like to purchase their own.
Can I bring my own yoga mat?
Yes. See above.
How do I let people in my organization/group know about the classes?
We’ll help you! We can provide marketing materials for the class with information about yoga that can be sent out or posted in a visible area. We can also organize an introduction to yoga presentation to talk about the benefits of yoga with people that might be interested in attending a session.
How do I schedule a class?
How do we figure out which class/style is best?
With a little information about your group size, objectives and interests, we can work with you to determine what might be the best class style and duration for your group.
How long is each class?
Normally our standard classes/sessions run 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes depending on the class. Yoga breaks run 15 to 20 minutes in length. If you’ve got schedule constraints or need a class to run for a specific length of time, let us know and we can tailor a class to suit your schedule/needs.
How do I prepare for class?
All we ask is that you dress appropriately for whatever class you’ve scheduled, arrive at least a few minutes before the scheduled class start time and turn off any distracting electronic devices (cell phones, computers, etc.).
What do I need to wear?
It will depend on the class. For most classes we ask that you wear comfortable loose clothing and be aware that yoga is most often practiced in bare feet, so you’ll be asked to remove your shoes(and socks). The only exception would be our Yoga Breaks/Desk Yoga or some of our corporate yoga programs where you would most likely remain in your work clothing.
What happens in the class?
Classes will usually begin with the instructor introducing themselves and identifying the level of practitioners in the class. Most classes will begin with a short warm up and breathing exercises before starting the posture routine. Classes usually end with a closing relaxation/quiet period lasting anywhere from 5-10 minutes depending on the time available.
Will there be prayer or any religious references?
No. Yoga is not a religion and no religious references will be made.
Do I have to commit to a certain number of classes?
No. You can buy one or many classes and use them whenever and wherever you like . Discounts can be given for the purchase of 5 or more classes at one time. Our programs consist of a number of classes (usually anywhere from 5 to 10) given consecutively and sold as a package. Programs may center on a particular interest, skill level or body focus(i.e. Intro to yoga, yoga for arthritis, kids yoga, etc.). If you purchase a program you must commit to paying for all of the classes, there are no refunds for classes missed or rescheduling of classes within the series.
Are you insured to provide services in my space?
Yes. All instructors are certified and insured. Your particular location will be covered as well under the instructor’s policy as part of the set up of the class. Insurance documentation can be provided upon request.
What is a program?
Our programs are a series of classes(usually anywhere from 5 to 10 classes) sold as a package and presented as a course or workshop. Program classes run in a specific sequence , beginning at a high level and working deeper into the subject matter as the weeks progress. They usually focus on a particular area of interest (e.g. Yoga for Arthritis) or skill level(e.g. Introduction to Yoga, Kids Yoga), with the objective of building the students knowledge and or experience of specific aspects of yoga. Programs are priced per student per program and usually require a minimum number of participants per class. Students will be responsible to pay in advance for the entire series.
What happens if I need to cancel a scheduled class?
We understand that cancellations are sometimes necessary and ask that you give 24 hours notice to move, reschedule or cancel any class. Otherwise you will be held responsible for a “call out” fee (varies by class, usually the base fee of $50).
Is it okay to eat before class?
We suggest that participants refrain from eating for 1.5 – 2 hours before the class.
